Cicem // A Story of Migration

&

A powerful collaboration between Suara Indonesian Dance Group and The Bowerbird Collective, Cicem explores the rich cultural contribution that Indonesian families have made to the Inner West over many decades through the metaphor of migratory shorebirds, such as the Bar-tailed Godwit, that once frequented the shores of Iron Cove Bay and the Parramatta River.

On their annual migration these birds – “cicem” – connect the cultures of Indonesia, Australia, and many other countries via the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. To detail these connections, Cicem: A Story of Migration will feature live dance and music, Wayang shadow puppets, craft and costume design, and interactive soundscapes.

With a blend of traditional and contemporary influences, Suara Indonesia Dance Group is an exquisite blend of originality and cultural and performative heritage. All engaging, each performance is an experiential adventure that entices the audience in.

The Bowerbird Collective was formed by Simone Slattery and Anthony Albrecht in 2017, two of Australia’s most accomplished and adventurous classical musicians, to explore links between art and science and to tell stories using a multimedia performance platform. BirdLife Southern NSW will be contributing knowledge and scientific guidance to this unique project.

Saturday 8 May at 3pm on The GreenWay.
